Re-unification Palace
One of the iconic moments of the American-Vietnam war was the sight of two tanks bursting through the gates of the Palace. The same tanks are now parked in the grounds of the re-named "Re-unification Palace" which offers a fascinating time-capsule of Saigon in the war years.
War Museum
Containing countless artifacts, photographs and documents relating to the American - Vietnamese conflict, this well presented museum presents a great counter-balance to the commonly presented picture of the war.
Cholon Market
Vietnam's Chinatown market is the place to go for the hustle and bustle of the daily shop. A great place to see the swirl of local life with all it's colours, sounds and scents.
Cao Dai Temple
Cao Dai-ism is a religion unique to Vietnam. A synthesis of various religious outlooks, the main Cao Dai temple is a bizarre Disney-esque agglomeration of images as diverse as Jesus and Victor Hugo. The priests and worshippers clothed in blue, red and white outfits are extremely photogenic. The temple is usually visited as a full day tour from Saigon in conjunction with the Cu-Chi Tunnels.
Notre-Dame Cathedral
In 1880 the Cathedral was inaugurated, and became the spiritual and cultural crucible of the French presence in the Orient.
Cu Chi Tunnels
Built by the Viet Minh during the colonial wars and used by the Viet Cong during the American War, these tunnels are a must see sight for visitors to Ho Chi Minh. They can be visited on a half day or a full day trip from the city.
Mekong Delta
Known as the Rice Bowl of Vietnam, the Mekong Delta is a fertile basin, highly populated but with fascinating rural life. Here you can stay in villages on islands in the delta, discover local ways of life and participate in lively floating markets.
