Diving
Nha Trang is Vietnam's number one dive spot. It is a very economical place to learn to dive (there are plenty of PADI certified instruction courses).
From Nha Trang there are easily accessed coral walls and gardens, and some good drop-offs. There is a good variety of diving available with some sites offering Rays, jacks, morays and groupers and others teeming with colourful tropical fish.
Trekking
The north of Vietnam is the countries prime trekking region, home to distinct hilltribe people and spectacular scenery. From Hanoi, head up on an overnight train to the mountain town of Sapa from where treks depart.
