Customs

There is no limit on the amount of currency you can bring into Singapore. There are no concessions on cigarettes and other tobacco products. This is in line with the Singapore government's campaign to discourage smoking. Prohibited items into Singapore are chewing gum, chewing tobacco and imitation tobacco products, cigarette lighters of pistol or revolver shape, controlled drugs and psychotropic substances, endangered species of wildlife and their by products, firecrackers and obscene articles, publications, video tapes and software.

Drinking Water

Although the government states that tap water is fine to drink, many travellers prefer to drink bottled water which is readily available.

Duty Free

Tourists can apply for a refund of the 4% GST paid on goods which are to be brought out of Singapore if they meet certain conditions. For more information of GST Refund, please contact the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) at 1800-3341335/6 or enquire at the GST Refund counters.

Entry & Exit Requirements

To check applications for valid visas, it can be made at the respective countries' high commissions or overseas missions. Generally, foreigners who do not require visas for entry and are visiting Singapore as tourists may be given up to three-day local visit passes upon their arrival in Singapore. Tourists, however, should have valid passports, Onward / return tickets, onward facilities (eg, Visas, entry permit, etc) to their next destination and sufficient funds for their stay in Singapore. Transportation

Singapore is one of the easiest cities in the world to get around, as it features a fully multi-modal transportation system consisting of taxis, buses and MRT (subway system). Buses and trains run from 6am to midnight and taxis operate 24-hours daily. There are several taxi companies island wide.
