Resort Guide For Hong Kong

PHONE: 0800 970 4511
Whatever your preconceived ideas, leave these on the plane as you set off to this exciting city. Colonial buildings are still here in all their splendour, and for those who want to see the modern impressive sky scrapers, you will not be disappointed! As one of the liveliest, most ethnically diverse places on earth Hong Kong is sure not to disappoint.
The city is currently re-energising itself after its return to Chinese rule, but things have not stayed static. The first Asian Disneyland is due to open in late 2005. A cauldron of ideas and cultures, Hong Kong is re-emerging as the gateway to Asia. It is true to say that whatever you are looking for Hong Kong can offer it in abundance.
In terms of its hotel accommodation, Hong Kong and surrounds can be divided into the following Area's

Hong Kong Island

Site of the former Governor's mansion and associated colonial buildings, the city grew on the northern shore of the island. As a result of the mountainous centre of the island, buildings have risen east and west of the original centre of the colony. Star Ferries still ply their way to Kowloon, although the new road tunnels have overtaken the ferry as the preferred method of transport between the islands!

Kowloon

Kowloon offers the most intriguing array of accommodation, shopping and dining. From the moment you step off the Star Ferry at Tsim Sha Tsui you will encounter the top end shopping of Nathan Road, local restaurants of Hung Hom and thriving markets of Temple Street. Every corner turned will uncover another colonial remnant, enticing shop or 5 star hotel!

Lantau Island

Off the coast to the northern part of this island lies the relatively new airport of Chek Lap Kok, which can offer a transfer into the city in about 30 minutes. Lantau Island also hosts the worlds largest seated outdoor bronze Buddha, has mountainous natural scenery and it is possible to visit local villages or relax on sandy beaches.

Macau

The former rival to Hong Kong, and long a colonial stronghold of the Portuguese, Macau was handed back to the Chinese in 1999. Whilst only a 45 minute ferry journey away, Macau offers a totally different type of experience and should be on your hit list during your stay in Hong Kong. Modern buildings mingle with Portuguese influenced haciendas, with unique Eurasian food and a selection of casinos!

China

Easily accessible from Hong Kong, you can choose whether your first view of China is by river, train or plane. It is possible to visit the cities of Guangdong and the poets capital of Guilin (made famous by its local delicacy - birds nest soup) You may of course decide to make Hong Kong part of a larger itinerary into China and beyond.
