Dubai is a shopper's paradise - and everything on sale is tax-free. Those with confidence can sometimes haggle for even better prices in the main shopping malls, where Gucci, Prada, Louis Vuitton and Cartier trade alongside old favourites including Marks & Spencer and Debenhams in spacious shopping malls.
Many top brand name products are cheaper in Dubai than in their countries of origin. Whatever your taste - couture from Paris or Milan, high-tech electronics from Japan or a piece of genuine Bedouin silver - you'll find it at the right price in Dubai.
Dubai's best buy is gold and the city's famous Gold Souk and the new Diamond and Gold Park offer shops filled to overflowing (literally!) with sparking bracelets, necklaces, rings, brooches and earrings in 18, 21 and 22 carat. Prices are cheap and determined by weight rather than design or craftsmanship - which, by the way, is first class.
Consumer goods at prices cheaper than anywhere in Europe can be found all over the city. Looking for electronic goods? Go to Al Fahidi Street, while shops in Cosmos Lane are lined with stores selling quality textiles from the east and west from cool printed patterns to exotic brocades. Al Karama is the city's bargain basement area with a large array of shops selling toys, household goods, textiles, fashions, accessories and much more.
Dubai Shopping Festival
The Dubai Shopping Festival is known throughout the world for not only being an opportunity for fantastic shopping and bargains, but also as one of the world's most entertaining festivals including grand firework displays, great prizes to be won, and of course the excitement of being in Dubai itself. Last year over million people attended the event. One of the highlights of the festival is the Global Village, with thirty eight pavilions from as many countries all displaying their traditional and modern wares and local cuisine, there is no shortage of things to do.
The distance from Jumeirah Beach District to the Global Village is approximately 30 minutes depending on the traffic. Other highlights include Riqa Street with, games and rides; a free laser and water show at Creek side Park culminating in a massive fireworks display.
